Is my piece worth restoring?

This is a common question and a somewhat misleading one. "Worth" or "value" is best thought of in four categories. Any piece of antique furniture may have any combination of the following values:

1. Historical Value – A rare example or has connection to historic figures.
2. Sentimental Value – Strong personal and emotional connection to the piece
3. Utilitarian Value – It continues to serve functional purposes
4. Monetary Value – The dollar value in the antique market

No one value is more inherently “important” than the others but by seeking to understand the relative significance of the values the object does or is likely to have, one can confidently make decisions about the level of investment they would like to make in the piece. I am happy to assist you in determining the values your piece may have.
